Welcome to Beginner Houseplant, where we’re all learning together.
I’m Crystal, and I have a bit of an obsession with houseplants.
There was a point in time where I used to laugh about how I could kill a cactus. That was before I really started learning abouts plants, and before I realized that cactuses really aren’t as easy as they’re made out to be.
I currently have over 50 houseplants. It all started with two I bought from the grocery store, a Gold Dust Croton and a Jenny Craig, and now it’s an addiction. Better than what could be, though.
Included among my collection are a few cactuses that I am happy to say are still alive. My favorites are Calatheas. I love them, they’re a bit iffy on me. Spider plants, Monsteras, and good ol’ Pothos are tops on my list.
I still consider myself a beginner. There’s always something new to learn.
Gardening Zones
My advice and care is coming from the Midwest USA, zones 5b and 6a. What I share are guidelines. Some things may be slightly different from where you are. The fun part about indoor gardening is that you get to know your plants and what works best for you.
